Representative Mary Gardens
Mother Mary Garden - St. Joseph's Church, Woods Hole, MA.
Believed to be the first public Mary Garden in the United
States. Original planting in 1932. Plan developed over a
five year period through 1957 by Dorothea K. Harrison,
landscape architect. The inspiration and mother garden for the
contemporary Mary Garden restoration movement. Plant List.
Home Mary Garden
A Mary Garden in which a little girl learns of Our Lady and her
Divine Son from the medieval Flowers of Our Lady.
School Mary Garden
The first Mary Garden we designed with the benefit of the
fuller variety of popular flowers available through research
into old German and Latin American, as well as English,
religious flower names. Plant List.
Parish Mary Garden
Magnificent Mary Garden at St. Mary's Parish, Annapolis,
Maryland, established in 1989, adjacent to historic Carroll
House. Original focal sculpture, "Mary of Nazareth"
dedicated 1991. Cared for by parish Mary Garden Guild and
fully integrated into Parish and School life.
Parish Mary Garden
Mary Garden at Saint Catherine of Siena Parish, Portage,
Michigan of beautifully landscaped design along entire south
side of the church building. Planted by parishioners under
the inspiration of Pastor, Fr. Thomas Stanley, S.M. - long
time Mary Gardener, who established the first Mary Garden at
a diocesan shrine, the Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine at Dayton,
Ohio in 1954. Augmented in 1996 by the installation of a
specially conceived and sculpted focal statue of 'Mary, Model
of the Church.
Parish Mary Garden
Raised bed Mary Garden at Our Lady's Parish, Wangaratta,
Victoria, Australia - inspired by pilgrimage visit of
Pastor, Fr. James Byrne, to raised beds of Knock Shrine
Mary Garden.
Shrine Mary Garden
Mary Garden established at Our Lady's Shrine, Knock, Co. Mayo,
Ireland by Msgr. James Horan, Shrine Director, and Shrine
Horticulturalist Anne Hopkins Lavin, in consultation with
Bro. Sean MacNamara, Irish Mary Garden Associate in 1983.
Plant list, including "Mhuire" flowers named for Mary in
medieval Gaelic.
Convent Mary Garden
Located on a shady hillside on the grounds of the Episcopal
Convent of the Transfiguration in suburban Glendale, this Mary
Garden surrounds a statue of the Madonna and Child which had
been placed there sometime in the 1960's.
Mary Garden of Remembrance
Garden planted in the enclosed burial plot at the Artane
Oratory of the Resurrection, of the Christian Brothers, in
Dublin by Mary's Gardens Associate, Bro. Sean McNamara,
botanist and former Chairman of the National Garden
Association of Ireland. Includes modern strains of Our Lady's
Flowers as well as the original wild species. Plant list.
Meditation Mary Garden
Garden of plants selected for the theological clarity of their
medieval symbolism, as a basis for meditation. Many of our
articles written on the basis of reflections while tending
this garden.
Herb Mary Garden
Mary Garden planted at her "Garden of Memories" herb nursery
by Herbarist and Mary's Gardens Associate, Bonnie Roberson,
of Hagerman, Idaho.

Cloister Mary Garden

Prison Mary Garden
A Mary Garden established at Idaho State Penitentiary with a
painting by a prisoner artist of Our Lady of Guadalupe on a
large rock as garden focal figure.
